Subject: heater hose
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII
I would like to replace the heater hose on my 84Gl which feeds coolant into
the heating system but I am having trouble locating a hose with suitable
dimensions. This hose is attached to the passenger side cylinder head and is
about 1 1/4" ID on one end and 5/8" ID on the other. I spoke with the parts
department at Gossett VW in Memphis and they could not find a part number in
their catalogs. Does anyone have a part number for this hose? I have
searched the entire length of the hose and can find no markings. Any help
would be appreciated. I spent some time in the hardware store in Munford
(where I live, about twenty miles north of Memphis) looking for an acceptable
arrangement of pipe to make the transition from the large size on one end to
the smaller size on the other. For about eight dollars I can make an
acceptable substitute from standard pipe fittings (one part of which must
first have a date with a grinding wheel to make it the right size). I would
much rather replace it with the proper hose for aesthetic reasons. Galvanized
pipe fittings may clash with the current color scheme in the engine
compartment. Any help would be appreciated.
