Haven't seen anyone from the mid South yet, so excuse my lousy spelling and shade tree grammar( even if I went to high school in IA). I'm Max Wellhouse(this IS my real name, the knickname is Bullwinkle), lived in N. Little Rock AR for the last 25 years. Grew up in IA where a part time job de-cosmolining new beetles and squarebacks during high school only further bonded me to these strange(for the mid/late sixties) but karma-laden vehicles. Prior to moving to AR in 1973, I had already owned over 50 beetles/ghias and even a 1960 rust free transporter I paid $3.61 for and it ran! Have also had a 1971and 1979 Type II that had half a million miles on the odo between them. Currrent flame is a 1990 White Vanagon GL w/123k which has had most of the nagging problems covered by this list. The list is truly a harbinger of what's to come and I appreciate eveyone's input. My primary hobby is whitewater canoeing and kayaking and the Vanagon(and previous Type II's) have served me well. My new 40hr./wk job(after working for Kroger co. for 25 yrs.) is at the Target Dist. center near here. I was fortunate enough to coach whitewater slalom at the Atlanta Olympic Games(could write a book about that 5 week period of my life). We're located only about 5 minutes from where I-30 and I-40 meet and should your travels get you here, by all means stop by and borrow that 46mm axle nut socket you left at home. We have one really excellent Vanagon-friendly mechanic(independent) in town, Bob Meyers Foreign Car Repair, so life can't get much better. Have a wife of 20 years and a 9 and 10.5 year old and a Border Collie that plays soccer. As Steven Wright has said,"You can't have everythng, where would you put it?". |
