For my personal skinflint homemade awning, I use these clamps that now that I have to refer to them, I don't know what they're called. But they're spring loaded clamps that carpenters might use to hold together two pieces of wood that had just been glued. They're avialable in a numbers of sizes and I use the smallest. It only takes two and the long handles make it easy to get them off and on. And they cost like $1.50 a piece.
