Hey Dave, who's doing the rebuilt. How many miles did it have before it went into the shop? Was the rebuilt expensive, and why did you have to get a new MSDS. Is that a state mandatory change?

I purchase my 87 Syncro GL early this year. It now has 165,000 highway miles on it. The original owner had the engine rebuilt by VW at around 115,000 miles. I'm a little nervous about having so many miles, I'm hoping that the VW rebuilt engine will give me another 30,000 miles before I have to rebuild it again. (how many times can an engine be rebuilt?)I hear that a VW rebuilt is a good way to go??? Anyway. . ., I love the box and I'm stuck with it for good or bad. (like I have a choice)

On that same subject, does anyone know if it's better for an engine to put an additive to the oil (The stuff that claims to help cold start wear)? Thanks DAN
