There must really be this sense of trust on this list. There's not too
many places on the net that one can feel comfortable about giving personal
info out without the threat of it being abused. Somehow, that trust is
conveyed thru the bits and bytes that land in my mail box on a continuing
basis. And if folks like GM Bulley, Ken, and Unca Joel - all of whom seem
more net savvy than I - can give us a peek at their cards, then I'd like
to contribute. Here goes...
As most know, I am Vanagonless - a Wannabus, to be sure. Since April, when
my wife and I found out our second child was to be another boy, I couldn't
get the image of my sons and I camping in a Westie by some stream in
Vermont or the Adirondacks. It has become an obsession. However, life
dealt us a cold slap in July, and we lost our son two days after his birth.
The dream of a Westie has dimmed somewhat. Too much association between
what was and what could have been. But dimmed is by no means extinguished.
And my two year old, Daniel, wants a Bus (try explaining that to your
significant other!).
Over the years, I've had only German cars - specifically, nine VW's and two
Opels. All have been interesting and even challenging at times. I try to
tackle most repairs "in house". I think that's what piques my interest in
this list most. The folks here are not afraid to tackle what most would
consider major project. The self reliance and accountability is
refreshing, as is the general cooperation.
Currently grounded in Rochester, NY, I grew up next door to West Point,
lived for a spell in Vermont and Albany, NY, and one day hope to get to Der
Fadder Land (Germany) just to check it out. I've had careers as a chef,
ski instructor (Pico in Vermont), electrical products sales representative,
truck driver, and, presently, electric motor support specialist. I may
forsake golf as my hobby in favour of a Westie. :o)
List members passing thru are welcome to ask for help - be it tools,
running down parts, or a cuppa coffee. I will do what I can.
And, finally, to answer the question no one has asked, yet; No, I have no
interest in that parts giant. :o)
