I don't live in Bend, but I am close enough to arrange a camping trip.  I
live in Klamath Falls while classes are in session at OIT, and a 2 hr drive
does not faze me a bit.  I have an 85 vanagon GL, with traction tires on the
rear end, and a home built camper conversion (actually, just a set of bunk
beds and curtains, but more is sure to come as money comes).  Once I get
some tow hooks welded onto the front end, I would be very willing to go off
road, more than just dirt forest service / fire roads.  Just one hitch, I am
18 years old, so if you don't mind a teenager running with you...  I do know
how to turn wrenches, and have done all of the mechanical work on my van (I
also have done two complete rebuilds to marine diesels).  I originally came
from Newport on the Oregon coast.  My dad who lives there owns an 84 GL, and
has owned it since 85.  Do a little math and you would discover that that
van has been with me for the majority of my life.  I bought my van just a
little over a year ago.  Just being 18, I find myself short of many of the
VW stories or history that most everybody else on the list has, but I am
starting to form some.  Not much else to say.
