That's a new one for me! I'll bet that this was one of the suggestions they came up with when they started noticing the shifting problems in the 091-1 gearboxes with the non- Moly coated syncro rings and the petroleum based gear oil.

Once we did the teardown at VW (and now here at my shop) I replace the syncros, the crack prone 3rd/4th gear hub, and some other modifications to other potential problem areas, and fill it with synthetic GL4 'till it runs out the fill hole.

After I've done all that I've not had any sort of complaint about difficulty engaging gears or other transaxle concerns.
