Hi Volks,
    I use a 3/8 inch  carriage bolt. Grind the head down so it will just
slide through the pilot , put the head through and  behind the pilot   off
set to one side and tightening  a nut on the bolt against a  socket or
washer pulls it right out. Has never failed me and I have pulled  some
pretty bad looking pilots.
