Subject: ever taken fittings off lp tank?

Hey,

Has anyone ever taken the fitting off the LP tank of a 91 Westy? I just did and to my surprise they are a little more complex than I picture in my mind.

The filler has a "bubble" type lifter on it and on the fitting it is marked "top." What is that suppose to do and am I correct in that orientation is key for proper function?

When I attach the fittings should I use silicon tape or the goop?

Have I really screwed myself and should seek the attention of a professional LP guy?

Keep in mind that in Omaha the guy who came out to "professionally" install our gas dryer tested the fittings with his cigarette lighter. I don't know who's more stupid him for doing it or me for watching.

Thanks for your time. Robyn 91 Westy Syncro
