Does anyone know of any after market cams that work well in a Wasserboxer 2.1? I've heard that most beetle cams, which would be any Type I motor I assume, will fit in the wasserboxer case, which is very similar to a Type I case. But that I would have to find one that works well with the FI, anyone have any experience with this?

BTW for anyone who knows the history of my engine the no. 4 piston has a chunk burned off the side about the size of a nickel, the rings on it were broken into hundreds of tiny fragments, this would explain the 55 psi of compression. I do have good news, the heads have absolutely no pitting, they are four years old, 22k miles and I used Prestone 5/50. I am considering using Autobahn in my new engine, but I've read that the pitting is caused by electrical currents in the coolant and heads caused by improper grounding which results in electrolysis between the dissimilar metals. I am going to ground both heads (as opposed to the stock setup which grounds only one) and replace all of the old grounds. FWIW when the previous engine was put in the dealer used a large 4-6 gauge (blue) cable running from the case to the transmission to the frame. I've heard that the blue cable is not uncommon, I've never seen it on any other Vanagons. I am photographing and documenting the process, I will post everything of my page when it's done.
