aah.. but I have locked myself out of my vanagon many times and so has my wife. What you said about having to use the key to lock is true.. but only for the driver side door. The problem is that many a times, it is much more convenient to exit through the sliding door. In fact, when parked in any close quarter parking spaces and in my garage, I find myself as the driver exiting through the sliding door. It's easier to get out that way... so slam.. and the doors are locked with the key in! Whenever my wife drivers, she seldom use the driver side door.. especially if she is wearing a skirt or dress..not lady-like to climb up and down that high perch from the drivers side etc.. I hide an extra key somewhere (I won't tell on the internet!) by screwing it behind something. As long as I have my swiss army knive with me, I can get my key out..

Now I was told that it is ok in my old age to forget my keys at lot.. but it is only if I forget what one uses keys for that I have to worry about on set of Alzheimer's disease!

>> I still don't see how one can lock the keys in a Vanagon. I can't close the door on my 81 and have it stay locked. I need the keys to actually lock it all up.

I always thought VW's were all like that. <quizzical look>
