I have a 1984 Vanagon, less engine and tranny. Body immaculate. I also have an opportunity to buy a 1986 Vanagon (body not so great but with spotless interior) with an engine (155K miles, with no leaks) and a rebuilt tranny still under warranty that is making ominous noises. I also have a spare '84 tranny that I can use. My questions are: 1) Should I put the '86 2.1L engine in the '84 chassis and use my spare '84 tranny? If so, do I have to use the '86 digijet ignition/injection or can I use the '84 digifant system with the '86 engine? 2) The owner of the '86 (out of the country - I am dealing with a friend) says he has checked and I can send the tranny back to the rebuilders (somewhere in CA) if I pay the freight and they will fix it since it is still under warranty? Is that a reasonable expectation? Thanks for any insight. Russell Gunter |
