>What is the most miles any Westy motor has gone before scraping or >being pulled for rebuild
my air cooled ones 62,74,78..... went about 100k miles 160k,km on original engines before the compression got down too low (110avg) and the gears got pretty sloppy with a syncro going .... just your normal stuff up to that point... they were all used for trips some long, some only weekends no real city use.. other than passing thru them. ... I've always wondered how they held up compared to a Lycoming or Franklin (in hours).. I know the 2.0 in my 78 was always being Eyed by other homebuilders all the years I went to Oshkosh.... for years they put them in a Volks plane... don't know how long they really lasted?
