Hello All, I've been having a terrible problem with my rear brakes on my Vanagon. I replaced the drums in May with new german OEM type from the Parts Place. The brakes squealed when used lightly, but were ok if I braked hard. Also, the hand brake would not produce the sound either. This became a real pain so having well worn brake shoes, I replaced them with some from the Bus Depot in August. Since then the squeal has been absolutely hideous. The slightest application of the brake produces an absolutely ear drum piercing pitch. I cleaned the drums and shoes with brake cleaner and readjusted them several times, but no change. The parking brake still does not produce the noise. With the limited light I just have not been able to investigate the problem much lately. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause? Any help is greatly appreciated. James Wagner
