Hi, I had this problem, both the cradle and the adjuster brace have broken. DPO had cradle rewelded, looks like one-eyed three finger Bob was on the job. Talked to DPO's mechanic 'ja, ve chust couldn't keep de altenator on dat van' I replaced the adjuster bracket with one made from steel bar about 1.5x as thick, the 'International Harvester' version. DPO/mech had also brilliantly drilled THROUGH the water jacket to get out the broken stud from the cradle mount. Looks like this alt bracket breakage is not a unique event, anyone else with probs? My alt now has new bearings, it ran/worked fine but grated, so I took it in, NO bearings at one end. This would explain the source of my vibrations, maybe that's going on. bye, Tim '87 Syncro Westy (the vibrator) '85 CrewCab/Sub (yard art) '85 7 seater (yard art's brother, the organ donor) |
