I have the progress of my rebuild posted on my web site along with a few photos. (http://v-dub.musa.com) One thing you may want to look at is the photo of my No. 4 piston, it has a chunk burned off the side and did not have a center ring left. The ring was is a few hundred pieces. The engine blew smoke and fouled the No.4 plug, go figure. All this with 22k on the engine, it was a VW factory rebuild, cost around $4k. This new engine is being build by Walt's VW Service in Columbia, MO. The clutch(new), fly wheel, pressure plate(new), pulley(new), crank, rods and a few other parts went to Gene Berg a few days ago to be fully balanced. I'm betting this engine will last longer. I'll keep you posted on the progress, or check out my site, it's updated frequently. Or at least when anything of importance happens. There are a couple shots of my MSDS intake system here also. I refinished it to remove rough areas and seams in the aluminum, the vacuum line has also been removed (only used for CA Vanagons).
