I received some pmails asking me where one could buy the Platinum Cat heater. Originally I saw that heater in a marine heating supply store. When I called Thermal Systems today to verify their address, they told me that one can buy them directly from the company, and in fact, they have a special offer now factory direct. The 3,000 and 6,000 btu sell for the same price, regularly, $520, for $378.95 now. The company producing the Platinum catalytic heater is a fairly small specialized operation. Their name and address, phone is as follows: Thermal Systems Inc. 2757 29th Ave SW Tumwater, WA 98512 (360) 352-0539

By the way, I don't work for them. I just believe that they put out a quality product that I hope will continue to be available in the future.

If anyone is interested, I once wrote up my installation notes. They are in the archives under author, harald.nancy, title, CAT HEATER INSTALLATION IN VANAGON, on 10/2/97.

For those considering purchasing the nonvented Olympian cat heater, open the box first and read all the warnings. Like, for example, Olympian Heater operating instructions says: "For continued high efficiency operation it is recommeded that the catalyst pad be replaced every 3 years and sooner if abnormal operation of pad is noticed. Catalyst pad replacement must be done at the factory." Another warning: "Catalytic Pad Poisoning. It usually can be noticed by reduced heat, propane odor, and/or difficulty in lighting etc."

If you have to replace the pad every 3 years on the Olympian nonvented cat heater, that makes the vented plat cat heater a bargain.
