Subject: Strange wire in harness? Stretch update

The Stretch, "Power of Two" is slowly getting better, I hooked up the tach and a vehicle speed sensor this weekend and it now revs halfway into the fuel guage. :-) With the new tranny from KCR that puts me at a bit over 50 mph in second (Stock gear) and it cruises at 81 mph at 4000 rpm. (4.57 w a .77 fourth)

While looking for a wire to run the speed signal back to the Jetta ECU, I came across a white/grey wire that is unconnected at the fuse box as well as at the back in the junction box near the left tailight.

In Bentley, the 82 diesel diagram shows the wire, unconnected, unlabeled. I can't find it in the diagram for the 86 syncro.

I'm just curious, does anyone know what it was for?

BTW, for you engine swap people, I found a good wiring table for the ABA engine at http://scirocco.psycode.com/aba/

I've also done some minor updates on my web page such as the notepad. Have fun! -Otmar- 86 Syncro (front) 82 (rear) Stretch GTI Westfalia.
