new vanagons are being made in South Africa, with the 5 cyl, and they are all manual transmissions. you need the SA bellhousing. Turbo, or non turbo, the deck lid needs to be raised like 1.5 inches..( now i find out..) but that's still no deterrant to me....i'd rather have 1.5 less foam in my mattress, and a reliable, pretty fast "VW "engine in the back, than a puny wasserleaker..... the reason for the big news is that up until now, nobody was making a bellhousing for an automatic..it was only 4spd 5cyl bellhousing that you could get from South Africa.

ps, dont forget about the VW Quantum, too...they also use the Audi 5 cyl.

chris '84 audi 5000 turbo (automatic) '84 vanagon wolfsburg (automatic), hopefully to be a turbocharged 5cyl soon.. :<)
