Yes, these work. They take forever for the oil to drain out of and stay kinda damp collecting dust and goop on them but in your case, I would recommend them. I had one on my `84 SVO 4 cly turbo and it worked well. It just made draining the oil a little messy and took longer. I was given it with the car I bought and I think I'll put it in my Westy too. I'm in the same boat w/ a stripped plug.
