Dear Darrell,

My '87 has died a few times since I've had it. More recently, when it is cold, it has died while idling. Tonight it died while accelerating, and I coasted to a parking place. It started immediately and got me home with a couple of noticeable cut-outs or hesitations.

First thing back I hooked up the your digitool. The fuel pump light is flickering and turning off. However, it always is bright concurrent with the starter light. I'm guessing that it is a bad ground wire or something along those lines, such that when the starter voltage is active there are paths with less resistance for the FP signal. It's just a theory. Does the fuel pump get a separate signal while the starter is on? It always starts with the fuel from starting it but then dies after the FP light has been out for a five or six seconds.

I should back up and ask you does this light tell me that there is no voltage going to the pump from the ECU? If so, does that mean it is possible I damaged the ECU or it is shorting out or something? I hope not. :'>[

I haven't even looked at the books yet. It is dark now, so I'll check the books, the list and sleep on it.

Thanks all, -- David Bogle
