Subject: Cold idle speed
Comments: To: Vanagon <vanagon@vanagon.com>

Before leaving for a business trip Sunday afternoon, I left my '84DL with my mechanic to do some simple things such as replacing the boots on the tie rods and replacing a hose that had been rubbed by the A/C compressor belt after he had put a new expansion tank in for me. I also asked him to check out the cold idle speed as with the advent of cool weather, it required some foot action to keep from stalling. Once the engine was running for a couple of minutes, performance was more than acceptable. Also, I have recently replaced digital idle stabilizer and aux. air regulator.

I called him up this afternoon to see if the work was completed, and he tells me the problem with the idle speed was a bad hydraulic lifter and he was trying to readjust the valves. Does this make sense? I asked him if he had checked out some of the simpler things and he said no.

I would appreciate some help on this matter.

John Lauterbach
