Any idea on the expected life of the wasser oil pump and fuel pump?

i'm one GMB' preventative maitenance deputies and would prefer to just replace these if they typically fail within a certain range of time/use. My van has 100k on it now and I'm going through everything....just replaced the water pump with 50k miles on it and am rebuilding the alternator...bearings and brushes. I have also replaced all CV's, the drive shaft, rebuilt the tranny, new brakes/rotors/drums/etc and lots of little stuff. Head gaskets are next. Then i'm done, i hope.

What about the strater....is it worth pulling/inspecting/cleaning and lubing it, or is this going overboard? I abhor the philosophy "wait until it fails." I do not want failures. I want to prevent them. :~). The cost of a breakdown on the road is typically very high...especially when you travel to remote places with young children. TIA steve 1990 syncro westfalia
