Dear Listmembers,
The symptom was that the fuel pump function became intermittent and then stopped working at all. This was after I soldered a 25 lead ribbon wire onto the ECU for the use of one of Darrell Boehler's digitools. Luckily the digitool told me that this was the problem by the FP light not coming on. It also allowed me to jump some pins on the tool and make the pump come on.
I replaced the electrical half of the ignition switch on the advice of some listmembers. This was fairly easy, cheap and fun. Still, there was no FP. I did notice that the headlight wire insulation was a little melted there near the ignition switch.
Darrell loaned me another ECU and voila. The ECU is the problem.
Next weekend I'll figure out from where the coolant is leaking. Looks like the plastic "distributor" on the right side of the engine may have suffered a crack during my tweaking of the hoses.
Thanks and regards,
--
David if it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is Bogle
'72 Campmobile 2.0L (For Sale)
'87 Vanagon GL Syncro Westfalia

|
