It isn't a huge issue which injection you use. Connecting them *cleanly*
into the Vanagon wiring harness is about the same amount of work ( 3 to 4
hours ). I personally would use the computer that was designed for the
engine you are installing, since Digifant uses "maps" to rate fuel. The
Digifant in the Vanagon vs Eurovan is quite different so I would call it a
non-issue as what I would do.
Digifant is a decent fuel injection system when all is working correctly.
It has nice things like fuel cut-off when coasting etc etc.. My favorite
is CIS due to it simplicity. The CIS-III system in my 87 Audi 5000 ( 2.3L
130hp 140 torque ) is just as sophisticated as Digifant and is a lot easier
to trouble shoot. There are certainly more Audis out there then Eurovans
out there which is a thing to consider when looking for spare parts.
You can get a running Audi for less than $1000 if you ask around the
transmission repair shops. The Automatic transmissions are very expensive
to fix. This is what I will be doing with my Audi this summer - installing
a 168hp turbo engine from an 88 Audi 5000 Automatic. With this system you
have a running car and you can see how it all goes together in a WORKING
setup. Mixing Vanagon and Eurovan injection systems could result in a lot
of wasted time since Wolfsburg never made such a beast.
