Subject: Flooding & water pump

Thanks for all the suggestions to date. Have followed up on most of them. May have a new symptom related to the flooding problem. Engine stalled at a traffic light while idleing about 30 seconds. Started OK but as I drove off, saw the tach was jumping around at random from about 2500 to 4800 revs. The engine speed was normal and the tach settled down after about two minutes.

I have installed an Equus electronic tach with a clock feature. An aftermarket. Had it on three different vehicles over fifteen years and never observed this happen before. The tach uses the same "green wire" connection off the coil as is shown in the wiring diagrams.

Any idea if this could be relevant to the flooding problem mentioned last week?

Second question. About a month ago, just after I changed anti-freeze (of course) noticed a whine in the water pump which was only confirmed with a stethescope. Now the whine is clear without a stethescope. How long can I safely run Smoky before having major problems? Would not hesitate to change now but Chri$tma$ is coming and I am looking at an engine swap.

TIA

Earl
