Listees,
I've gotten a new problem to hassle with. Sunday evening, I was out
driving my Syncro with a friend of mine when we drove through a water
pond, the engine stalled. Standing in the middle of the traffic, we
jumped out and pushed it to the side oh the road. After opening the ldi,
it was all dry in the engine compartment, so we didn't see any wet
electricity. We popped the distributor to see if any moisture had gotten
under, but it was dry. When we put the cap in place, we tried to start,
and it started right up. I drove him home, and was on my way home, when
I splashed some slushy snow, then it died again. I tried to turn the
engine some times, and in fourth try, it started again. I got home
without any trouble, it was only 1 km to go. Monday evening, I needed
the car again, but it wouldn't start (I didn't drive it at all since i
got home Sunday) I checked the engine for any moisture again (it was
pouring down, and windy too, we have a weakened MITCH over us right
now), but I couldn't see any direct water, the compartment was totally
dry, except for some water coming in through the left air grille,
dripping around, but not directly on the ECU. I removed the plug on the
ECU, it was dry. The ECU was wet on the outside, but it must have been
wet before in the ten years this car has been around. The coil and
nearby electronics was dry, too. The only electrics that was wet, was
the wires running to the taillight and ECU. I didn't get to check
anything under the car, but figured that it wasn't so much that couldn't
get wet and stop the engine, except maybe the fuel pump, if that is
under the tank (Syncro) The engine is a 1988 2,1 DJ series, 175000 km,
with a Digijet injection, the ECU is mounted behind the left taillight.
It doesn't have any Oxsensors that go bad, it doesn't have any cat
equipment at all. I feel that the injection system is really hard to
pinpoint opposed to carbs, and I don't have any spare parts lying
around, so I will have to localize the problem as far as possible.
Anybody got any ideas? Ask if there is something I should have included.
I'm counting on you all to make this as cheap as possible!
Tia,
PerL
