Subject: Syncro front inner CV circlip
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

Hello- I was wondering if anyone has a method of seating the circlip on the front inner CVs on a syncro that does not involve a shop press (as I don't have access to one). I cannot seem to get the circlip seated in the groove as the dished washer does not seem to allow the joint to give the circlip enough clearance. I have tried the only two things I thought of - attempting to pound/seat one edge of the circlip with a drift and mallet and to squeeze the hopefully partially seated circlip into place. Needless to say, this combination did not work. Any advice is most appreciated as otherwise, I am off to the local shop so they can press the hub down and pop the little sucker into place. While this is actually for my Golf, it is just a warm up for when I repack the front syncro joints in a couple weeks (the Bentley's show the dished washer used in both joints, so I expect I will hit this problem again)...

dave
