<< Hi Michael, I have not been following this 5 cylinder Audi very close but find it interesting. I have always wanted more power even in the 60s when I drove cars with 383 and 440 cid engines with over 300 tire burning hp, dam that was fun. First the transistor that pulses the injectors would handle a fifth injector with no problem. However the van digifant pulses the the injectors once for every 2 hall pulses. I think the i5 may run a little rich. In 4 revolutions of the engine the 4 cylinder hall unit would provide 8 coil pulses and the digifant would inject fuel 4 times. With a 5 cylinder 4 revolutions would have 10 hall / coil pulses and 5 injector pulses. Lowering the fuel pressure might solve the rich problem and the oxygen sensor would most likely handle it once close loop is entered. My 2.1L cuts out at 5400 rpm so a 5 cylinder would cut out at about 4300. The ignition maps for the boxer may be different than the i5. A better digifant for the i5 may be one from an i4 like the later national late model fox. They are very similar except for the coil module and would have ignition maps for an inline engine and have a higher engine cutout. I can completely rebuild and balance a 2.1L, install new heads, bearings, etc for $1500 and have a reliable van. I am in the process of doing one now. What is the going rate for a i5 transplant? Not that I wouldn't love to have more power. Darrell

>> Hi Darrel, you definitely brought up a good point. Using the Audi fuel injection system looks like the way to go. However I'm looking into the cost of a Eurovan intake manifold, ECU and wire harness to see what the cost would be, I'm probably wasting my time though because I have a feeling that it'll be expensive. The person that you need to contact is Ken at KENWILFY@aol.com He will know the costs involved for the 5 cyl conversion. There's been a lot of talk on the Eurospec engine, but I'd rather have the 5 cyl conversion with a lot HP's and torque. See ya later. Michael 87 syncro 87 quattro
