Sounds like gear grinding. Water pump is ok (pulled off belt...noise still
there).  Checked around with a long screwdriver as a scope, noise is loudest
on coolant transfer pipe (from right cyl head to pump) but I think this is
acting as a noise amplifier....not the source.  Also checked oil pump,
pulley, a/c etc to no avail.  I hate to say it but it sounds internal.  No
loss of power, engine runs great and no leaks.
