Hey gang,

I need a little help with a problem that my relative is having with her Eurovan.

A little background:

It's a '93/'94 eurovan 5 speed, that she bought in england but was shipped from the states. She had it for 4 years or so then it got wrecked in the front (said a pole went under the car) and had the entire engine replaced. (you must realizie of course the they only replace what they have to) She has had the car back from the mechanic for about 8 months. She just recently had the emissions done AND just had the fuel filter replaced.

The problem:

Recently, when she drives it for a few miles, and the temp. guage moves up a bit, it starts to bog down. She describes it as a gradual loss of power even though she is depressing the accelorator. At it's worst, she said that it's like flooring it to get forward motion with the car in neutral. Once or twice it has completly stalled.

The Clues:

She says it hasn't sounded the same since the emissions inspection (at a non-VW place) She says the mechanic who replaced the fuel filter reported alot of gook in the filter and suggested that the fuel pump may need attention.

She hasn't had the thing serviced for a long time, if ever! She's said during one of these episodes of bogging down she smelled rubber (I honestly think she may have left the E-brake on) She is not incredibly bright, because I asked her a few questions about the transmission and she said that it didn't have one.

Please reply with any help/suggestions as soon as possible because she will be taking it in tomorrow and I don't want her to get taken (anymore) Thanks in advance as usual for your selfless attention
