Subject: Head replacement

Sorry to resurrect a thread that I am sure has been discussed a zillion times.

It looks like I have a leaking head - a small one at the moment. What is the accepted wisdom of:

1.) If a head is leaking so that you are limited to a few hours driving before you get the flashing red light - how long can I go before things get really bad?

2.) Is it recommended to replace both heads?

3.) New or rebuild heads?

4.) Can you do this with the engine in the Van, or is it worth the trouble to pull the engine?

5.) If you are mechanically competent, is this worth doing yourself? Or are you better off taking this to a reliable shop?

Thanks. Todd '88 westy. (Tempted to call it Mr. Bubble - since that is what it does to the coolant)
