US 61 between Hastings, MN and Lacrosse, WI.  Do this route in the winter when
the Mississippi is frozen except for a few areas.  These are where you'll see
a lot of bald eagles.  They feed on the fish that are in those clear areas.
This route also goes along the west side of Lake Pepin.  Those of you who are
familiar with Laura Ingles-Wilder of Little House on the Prarie fame would
know that she was born a few miles east of this lake.  The Lake is actually a
wide spot in the Mississippi.  Closer to Lacrosse is where the bluff region
is.
