My '88 Westy I think has a failing throwout (pilot?) bearing. It first started to make a Rrrrrrrrrr sound only when the clutch was depressed and more so when it was cold. I've driven a few days to work like this (5 miles) and now the sound has changed to more like the metalic squealing you hear when the brake pads are making noise. My assumption that this is the bearing getting worse and worse. Since I can't repair it right away, my question is how much damage am I doing by driving it like this - should I just park it until I can repair it? Or is this something that can go awhile and will just make lots of noise? Thanks Todd '88 Whining Westy. |
