All: I guess you can't really call these campers, they are class A motorhomes, but small enough to garage at 21 feet. I helped work on one of these this past summer, and liked what I saw. Most had BMW turbodiesels with 5spd trans, some had GM v6's and automatics (the GM ones had fixed hi-roofs, but I'm sure there are exceptions). Very nice rig, well thought out, very comfortable driving position, but sadly I didn't get to drive it. The visibility was at least as good as a vanagon. The owner says he cruises at 70 to 75mph and gets low to mid 20's mpg, cruising range anywhere from 500 to 700 miles. The pop-up roof is raised by an air ram fed from a standalone air pump-push a button, up it goes. It's hinged on the passenger side, the drivers side goes up a foot and a half or so, plenty of room for me to walk around (6' or so). The down side: few of them have stoves built in, but many have had microwaves fitted, and, limited production means limited parts, etc, although there are several dealers who have good stocks left. There is an owners group, but forgot the name. Anyhow, here's a link to take a look: http://www.agencyrv.com/vixen.html steve '85 westy kent, wa |
