Here is how I envision the naming of the Vanagon. VW sent the first test Vanagon to North America a year before production to allow VW of America to check it out. They still hadn't come up with a good name for the van. As one of the higher ups at VW of America was driving the van home one night from work a Volvo stationwagon ran a red light and crashed right into the side of the van. Both drivers were shaken but neither were hurt. As they got out of their vehicles and inspected the damage the van driver said, "Hey! You got station wagon all over my van!" And the Volvo driver said, "Hey! You got van in my station wagon!" And hence the name Van-wagon or Vanagon. Did this really happen? I have no proof it didn't. :0 Friday!!!!
