Hey all, I just have to write of my recent trip to Vegas and the fortitude of my Vanagon. I just got back from the Comdex convention in Las Vegas and drove there from Denver (about 1700 miles round trip) and apart from some rough riding over the divide, had a completely enjoyable time. According to the owners manual, my 87 Weekender won't go above 88 mph due to a max. rpm of 5300 I think it says. I had been driving 90+ in the thing for miles at a time until I looked at the speedo. Has anyone actually noticed this ability? At 90 I was turning 5000 rpm almost exactly. I wasn't comfortable with the high rpm's and eased off when I saw it, but it was a smooth ride. It got me thinking- I saw somewhere how the Vanagon was offered in a 5 speed in Europe. Has anyone ever looked into getting a used 5 speed from overseas and fitting it to a US equiped model? I for one would love the speed gain for road trips. Scott Paddock 87 Wolfsburg Weekender JUST turned 150K |
