Seems to be a lot of hot air on this snow tyre business. I drive a syncro where I live in the Norwegian mountains alt 7000ft There is snow for maybe 7 or 8 months in the year, so I think I can speak with a little experience. Some guy talking about not using studs on his (NonVW) unmentionable cause it ruins the handling. Well, whatever country you live in b***sh*t is b***sh*t. Studs are the only thing to use in mixed snow and ice conditions full stop. OK, so I have double diff locks, but for this guy to say he douesnt trust his syncros on snow is bordering on the insane. My syncro is the best 4wd on ice and snow I have driven, and yeah, a VW is a VW, and by the way hows the handling on that studfree T*y*ta with its chains on, cause you`d surely be using them getting to my house for a cup of tea.... Dave :)
