On my 83.5 Westy that peg has an extra door handle attatched to it like the one on the front of the door. Why it is there I cannot say as its position prevents any practical use whatever. Ref renewing the fiberglass there was a thread about that here a few weeks ago. Many folks mentioned various things available at marine supply shops (for fiberglass boats). I have tried none of them myself.
