Hey all,

I spent my Sunday putting the heads on. The only big thing was wrestling with the exhaust system (i never took it apart..maybe I should have).

Now I'm up to adjusting the valves. Some of the push rods have more play than others when I push on the bottom of the rocker arm. Does this mean I should have removed the lifter is bad or will it pump up once I've put the oil back in the car.

Anyone who plans on doing this job should give yourself plenty of time. There's lots to clean and lots to do right the first time.

Some one mentioned they're heads have just started to leak and wondered if replacing the heads is necessary. Answer is, you won't know until you pull them off. Rebuilt heads are currently not in stock anywhere but AVP said they could rebuilt heads in 3 days if you send them out to them and they are rebuildable.

If you've done any engine work on an air cooled VW, you will find that the Vanagon engine will seem very familiar except for the water and hydraulic stuff.
