>>> David Thompson <David.Thompson@EDWARDS.AF.MIL> 11/17 6:16 PM >>> What about Prolong? What about synthetic oil? If PTFE products actually clog engines, why haven't we heard any hue and cry from the auto industry, or "viod warenty" notices from manufactururers?

Ahh. yes.. my Infiniti Q45 (my other car) manual does threaten that ..use any addititive not put in by them and my 70,000 bumper to bumper waranty goes out the window! (Synthetic Oil is good .. but is it 4x as good at 4x the price?)

Also, Du Pont, the holder of the Teflon patent (trade name of PTFE) totally dis-awow the effectiveness PTFE in engine oil use. They refuse to sell PTFE to Slick50 and others. These companies have to buy PTFE from the secondary market overseas.. Mexico, Malaysia, Taiwan etc because they cannot get it from any US/Canada supplier who want to continue to be in good steads with Du Pont. The way I look at it, if it is really good, you can be sure that Du Pont would want to be in on the action. I think they (Du Pont) just don't want the law suites and associated hassles with these unproven products using their priced formulations.

Synthetic Oil is good.. it is less prone to break down by heat etc.. it the PTFE additive that is bad.

Just my $0.02 worth
