Dear Listmembers,


My '87 syncro westy, when cold, is hard to shift from 1 to 2.  When it
goes into 3rd gear it grinds a little.  Once it warms up it feels fine,
but I've only driven one, this, vanagon.


My new found mechanic, the esteemed list member Dennis Haynes, now has
the vehicle and will test drive it soon. He drives one of the same.  He
says it is, well I don't want to give it away...but the infamous
redesigned 3-4 hub.


Any dissenting opinions, odds, and "how long do I have" opinions are
welcome.  Commiseration is assumed.
