Gretchen,

I am not from Portland, but we recently returned from a trip there. We had to have the collection pipe replaced on the vanagon. 2:30 in the afternoon on a saturday just as we are entering the portland area, the pipe dies. We look in the phone book for a mechanic. Well, after 3 places that wouldn't see us immediatly, we were referred to Halsey Automotive. FANTASTIC place!!! This is a dedicated VW shop with retail parts store attached. The place was clean, the mechanics polite and KNOWLEDGABLE. They fixed us up, labor and everything, for less than I have paid for that part alone in the past. I don't know the address, but if you look up the name in the phone book you will see them. Good luck. If you need more info, email me.
