Subject: What RPS to shift my Bus

I'll open myself up to flames here:

The four German cars we have cover the gamut from high-power loafing V8 Mercedes to the very tame, get there sometime Bus (Yes, it is a Bus). They ALL LOVE to be revved, and make their power at the upper ends of the rpm range. Even the Bus makes its power up towards the higher reaches, 4800 rpm or so, and with so little power available even there, I tend to use whatever I can to keep up with traffic. When conditions allow relaxed cruising, great, but I'm not going to have John's Mack truck on my rear bumper if I can avoid it. Therefore, I know my rev limiter works because I've bumped it many times. Do I constantly run at 5billion rpm? Course not, but if I need to get moving...

I just thought about this, so I'll add it as well. When we had the motor rebuilt, we had the thing balanced, ported/polished, and made sure everything was properly assembled (probably sounds like the "Hoover sermon on Free Horsepower", well, it works). The motor is absolutely smooth at all rpm's, very quiet, and I can feel the difference between mine and other's stock motors. So, if you are in the process, or soon to be, I highly recommend balancing and having someone qualified do some mild porting on the heads.
