I am in the same boat as Roy, except I drove a '87 Westie across the southern
part of the US on 40 this summer from Tennesse to San Francisco, California
with no hassles by the law.  Have driven my Carat up and down the East Coast
with no hassles either.  You should see the looks on peoples faces when
driving through some back woods areas in Georgia though.  They have never seen
a Vanagon before and I wonder if they think it is some kind of giant Golf or
something.  :)
