Scott Paddock is on the ever elusive trail of a 5 speed gearbox for the Van. Ken Wilford had a couple of South African 5 speeds for a good price the other day and I can also get the Euro gearboxes for a slightly higher cost. You will also need to upgrade to the 5 speed shifter linkage (or so I have heard) and it generally runs around $350 or so. I can regear your 4 speed for several hundred less than the 5 speed and it'll do just about what you wanted the 5 speed to do. IMO the 5 speed might be a bit more flexible with a stock engine's torque and horsepower band but the final drive ratio can be the same with a regeared 4 speed. Plus, with the 4 speed you don't have to swap shift linkage over. If you are dead set on the 5 speed then I'd post Ken a note as the price he quoted was about the best I've seen in a long time. -Todd Hill VolksWerks Transaxles Olympia, WA |
