just a thought david would be to inspect the starter pilot bushing? they
do eventually wear ( some don't diesel oil/fuel is slick) and some may
collect the dust off the clutch(high friction) but in my case a
previously bad starter armeture had mauled the small amount of brass.
Just a thought that is often overlooked, also check the resistance in
the Key circut to the starter solenoid as excessive current draw (
prolonged cranking) will muss up contacts over time. To check is to find
the wire to the solenoid from the key and give it live + ( be in
neutral) and see if its any faster if not then ? if so check resistance
in ign switch.
