Hi Volks!

I've been all over the archives but I can't seem to find the answer to my questions:

I've got an '85 Westy GL

Q1: I'm in the process of replacing the Westfalia stickers on the front and back of the pop top. I removed the old stickers and, per the archive, cleaned the pop top with a bathroom mildew cleaner. The top looks great now, but there is still very noticeable sticker residue that won't come off.

I thought this wouldn't be a problem because the new stickers would just cover it up. Unfortunately, they are not an exact match (the spacing ends up being off by about 1/2 in.). So, I want to put the new stickers on, but I don't want the old sticker residue showing around it.

Any ideas of how to get the old sticker residue completely off? If it were another surface, I'd probably try lighter fluid or something, but I'm worried about what it would do to the fiberglass.

Q2: I just replaced the right front signal bulb socket (I'm sure that's not the real name, but it has the male connectors on the back for three wires--gray, brown, & black). While the old one was out, I taped the three of the wires together (stupid!) and when I tried my hazards, I blew three fuses. Anyway, I replaced the fuses, put the new bulb socket it, and it now works great.

The problem is that now my LEFT front signal light won't work with the lights on. the right one works fine, but the left one is giving me problems. With the lights off, the left signal, the hazards, and the park lights all work fine. It just won't signal/hazard with the lights on.

Any ideas? Is there a relay of some type that I might have burned up when I blew the fuses? If so, where should I look?

As always, I really appreciate this list for the wonderful help provided here!

Happy Thanksgiving.

-Patrick Radford, VA '85 Westy GL "Vicki"
