I have an 81 Westy which has approx. 1,000 miles on a new motor (which I installed). I took it on its first trip, approx. 500 miles, and it ran great until I was coming home (the last 10 miles) and noticed this noise coming from the rear end. The noise is a clanking, clunking sound and seems to get worse when the vehicle is under stress i.e., going up a hill or driveway. Also, when I push the clutch in, the noise disappears. When the motor was out I put in a new slave cylinder and T/O bearing. I am totally stumped as to where this sound is coming from........I hope it doesnt have something to do with end play or the pressure plate. I am not sure I have the time or energy to drop the engine again!!! Please, any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott |
