This whole thread has been fascinating, but does any one recall how the 1970-1975 914's drivetrain ended up with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse given that the engine was FORWARD of the transaxle...as opposed to the way it was in the 1976 912E?

Wasn't this feat achieved through flippin' the diff'?
